LAKE PLACID - The Northwood School girls soccer team posted two victories over a busy parents' weekend, as the Huskies combined to outscore Massey Vanier 6-1 in two matches played.

The Huskies kicked off the weekend Oct. 4 with a 2-0 victory on the strength of goals scored by Lindsay Powers and Jilly Barile. Cailey Hutchinson and Katey Snyder each had one assist in the game.

Northwood followed with a 4-1 win over Massey Vanier on Oct. 5. Powers led the way with a pair of goals, and Hutchinson and Bridgit Sullivan each found the back of the net once. Hutchinson, Powers and Sara Donatello added an assist each in the win.

The girls squad will play this weekend at a tournament in Old Forge.

The boys junior varsity team also played on Saturday and finished in a 1-1 deadlock with Selwyn House.

Saturday also included a crew competition and a mountain bike and trail run as part of the Northwood School Parent's Weekend festivities.

Northwood's crew hosted Augustine Classical Academy and Mohawk Home School Rowing Association on Mirror Lake on Saturday for a 2,250-meter stake race (a time trial on an out-and-back course) that included single sculls, double sculls, quad sculls and co-ed fours. Thirty-two crews and single scullers competed. Highlights for Northwood were first place in the girls' JV single (Rachel Hollander '16, of Lake Placid) and second place in the girls' JV double (Maris Van Slyke '15 and Chloe Doctor '16, both of Lake Placid).

The inaugural Northwood Alumni Memorial Mountain Bike/Trail Run was in honor of Jeff Tait, a 1998 graduate from the Lake Placid based prep school, and drew 40 competitors in numerous divisions. Two seniors, Hunter Miller and Rob Demars, pedaled to respective first- and second-place performances in the boys student bike division. Ian Zdgiebloski and Emma Zdgiebloski, who are also seniors, topped the boys and girls student fields in the run.

David McCahill, a 2004 graduate, won first place overall in the alumni mountain bike race and Don Mellor from the Class of 1971 placed second.

Jamie Welsh of the Class of 2003 finished first in the men's alumni run and 2009 graduate Matheiu Castonguay placed second. Becky Getman Larson ('94) won the women's alumni division run.

Chris Grant and Scot Rosenthal rode to respective first- and second-place results in the adult mountain bike race, and Kevin Larkin was first in the adult run.

Andy Donatello was first in the faculty bike race and Marcy Fagan won the faculty run.
