ST. HUBERTS - A search continues for a seventh day today in the Dix Mountain Wilderness for a Massachusetts man last seen 11 days ago at a local grocery store.

No sign of Scott Haworth has been found, according to state police spokeswoman Jennifer Fleishman. Ten forest rangers, a New York State Police Special Operations Response Team and a canine unit are involved in today's search, concentrating their efforts around the basin of Dix Mountain, Fleishman said.

Haworth, 46, of Chicopee, Mass., signed in at the Dix wilderness' Round Pond trailhead along state Route 73 on Aug. 30. State police found his car, a 2002 Ford Escort, parked there on Sept. 10.

During the 11 days between those two dates, Haworth visited the Valley Grocery in Keene Valley twice. He tried to cash a personal check at the store on Sept. 3, then returned on Sept. 5 and bought unspecified merchandise using a check. That's his last confirmed sighting.

It was Aug. 25 when Haworth was last seen in Massachusetts, where he is employed at a bulk mail center in Springfield, according to Chicopee police. He has been absent from work since then.

He has been described as an avid hiker, a former rock band drummer and a quiet man with no wife, children, credit card or cellphone.

Fact Box

Scott Haworth is 6 feet tall and 160 to 165 pounds in weight. He has blue eyes, brown hair and a beard. Anyone who has seen him is asked to call the state police's Ray Brook office at 518-897-2000.
