Lake Placid boys soccer downs E’town

LAKE PLACID - Stuart Baird and Nzoni Thompson each scored early in the first half to lead the Lake Placid boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Elizabethtown-Lewis on Sept. 9.

Baird put the Blue Bombers on the board in the 10th minute after taking a pass from Ryan Damp. Thompson, a junior, extended the lead five minutes later with an unassisted goal.

Chris Kordziel earned the win in net for Lake Placid after stopping all four of the shots he faced. The Blue Bombers held a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Lake Placid 3, Elizabethtown-Lewis 1

ELIZABETHTOWN - Senior Adele Jesmer had a goal and an assist to lift the Lake Placid girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Elizabethtown-Lewis on Sept. 10.

Liza Marinis opened the Blue Bombers scoring with a goal 14:50 into the first half. Taylor Barney gave Lake Placid a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later after taking a pass from Jesmer.

The Lions cut the deficit to 2-1 on an Angel Barnes goal 13:53 into the second half, but Jesmer put the game away two minutes later with a score on a pass from Jillian Goulette.

Laura Stanton stopped two shots in goal for Lake Placid, which outshot the Lions 13-3.


Lake Placid 2, Willsboro 0

WILLSBORO - The Lake Placid girls soccer team blanked Willsboro 2-0 on the road Sept. 6 in Division II action.

Taylor Barney gave the Blue Bombers an early 1-0 lead on a goal with just one minute gone in the match, and Liza Marinis sealed the win on a tally with 30 seconds remaining on the game clock.

Lake Placid dominated in shots, holding a 25-7 advantage in the contest.

Laura Stanton made five stops in goal to earn the win for the Blue Bombers, and Stephanie Blanchard recorded 16 saves in a losing effort in goal for the Warriors.

Adele Jesmer and Carissa Kennedy each picked up an assist for Lake Placid, which improved to 2-0 with the victory.



Saranac Lake 3, Lake Placid 1

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake and Lake Placid volleyball teams locked up in a Tri-Lakes battle, with the Red Storm walking away with a 3-1 victory on Sept. 10.

Saranac Lake took the first game 27-25 and the second 25-23. The Blue Bombers extended the match with a 25-17 win in the third game, before the Red Storm put the match away with a 28-26 victory.

Samantha Martin and Ellen Miner led the way for Saranac Lake. Martin served up eight aces to go along with her four digs and 11 points overall. Miner had four assists, two aces, two kills, one block and seven service points.

Alivia Sapone chipped in two kills and two assists and Crystal Plowe-Sovey had two assists, one kill, one ace and four points. Brittany Woodruff contributed three digs, two kills and three points and Katie Burgess had five digs, two aces and two kills.

Lake Placid was led by Ally Wallace, who had seven aces and 18 points. Brenna Garrett did her part with 11 points, five aces, four assists and four kills and Kiana Fell had six kills.

Both teams were scheduled to return to action on Sept. 12, with Lake Placid hitting the road for a game against Peru and Saranac Lake on the road against Northern Adirondack.
