September 5, 2013

WESTPORT - It's kickoff time for the 2013-14 season of the National Football League, but the season is winding down at the Depot Theatre of Westport. Not to fret, the last act caters to the interests of football fans.

Vince Lombardi, who is recognized as one of the best - if not the best - coaches in NFL history and led the Green Bay Packers to victories in the first two Super Bowls. He is the main character in a performance simply titled "Lombardi," which runs through Sept. 15 at the Depot Theatre.

Football's Super Bowl trophy is named for the legendary coach of the Packers. Few people, however, know the real story of Vince Lombardi the man - his inspirations, his passions, and his ability to drive people to achieve more than they ever thought possible, reads a Depot press release. Based on David Maraniss' book "When Pride Still Mattered - A Life of Vince Lombardi," this hit Broadway play explores Lombardi's relationship with his wife, Marie, and three of his legendary players during a pivotal week in 1965.
