It’s a golden opportunity

Lake Placid News

The Gold Pass that has been introduced by the Olympic Regional Development Authority is a great idea and it gives locals a chance to enjoy some of the wonderful attractions this region has to offer.

The pass will give residents an opportunity to have unlimited access to the Olympic venues run by ORDA for an entire year. It's a move that is certain to give more locals a chance to enjoy these venues - and there are certainly many residents who have never experienced the attractions right in their own backyards.

The Olympic Jumping Complex, including the Summer Jumping Series; the Olympic Sports Complex, Olympic Museum, Veterans' Memorial Highway and the Whiteface Mountain Cloudsplitter gondola rides, admission to Oktoberfest, the Flaming Leaves Festival, Saturday Night ice shows, selected events and 20-percent off the Lake Placid Bobsled Experience and Skeleton Experience are all part of the Gold Pass benefits.

And the best part is that the cost of $79 is a very fair price to pay. If purchased now, it will be valid through April 30, 2014. Of course, during the winter, the Gold Pass is NOT the equivalent of a Whiteface lift ticket.

Certainly there are many people who live in the area who do not visit - or never visited - these Olympic attractions chiefly due to the cost. Paying a onetime fee for unlimited access is a no-brainer move for ORDA.

ORDA has termed area residents as the best ambassadors for the Olympic venues. That is so true. The entire region benefits from the high volume of visitors who come to Lake Placid and the Olympic Region. Area residents must seriously consider just how great a deal the Gold Pass is - and spread the word.

The region is fortunate to have the Olympic venues here in our backyard, and hopefully more people who live here will have a greater appreciation for where we live.

Gold Passes are now available at Whiteface Mountain. For more information and details and/or purchase of both the passes, visit
