Shirley "Ann" (Ware) Leonard, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio.
Ann was born in Lake Placid, New York on October 3, 1931. She was the daughter of her late parents, Edward L. and Alice Ware and late brother, J. Vernon Ware. She graduated from Lake Placid High School class of 1949 and attended business school in Syracuse.
Later she moved to Albany, New York and worked for the New York Telephone Company. It is in Albany where she met her husband, Robert "Bob" Leonard. Bob and Ann were married in 1955 in Lake Placid in St. Agnes Catholic Church with a beautiful reception at the Mirror Lake Inn. Soon after marrying they began a family, and in 1967 relocated to Worthington, Ohio where they have lived since.
Together they shared a love of travel and enjoyed sharing those experiences with memorable family trips. More importantly, both sought enjoyment in support of their family's endeavors. Ann was each grandchild's number one fan on every sideline; from football to track, volleyball to soccer, and basketball to baseball.
Her personal hobbies included playing tennis, gardening, being a member of the vocal group Worthington Songsters, and volunteering for Christ Child Society and Meals on Wheels.
Lake Placid always had a special place in Ann's heart. She loved a beautiful lake view, hikes during a crisp fall, and a quiet new fallen snow. Her sense of humor and love for song and dance brought joy to all of those around her.
Most of all, Ann was a loving wife and proud mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She will be remembered for her positive outlook on life and never-ending strength and faith.
Ann is preceded in death by parents, Edward L. and Alice Ware, and brother, J. Vernon Ware.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Leonard, who was born and raised in Troy, New York; and her three children: Kathleen Mazza and her husband Donald, and their children, Dominick and Carrie of Worthington, Ohio; Gregory Leonard and his wife Kelley of Rockbridge, Ohio; and Patrick Leonard and his wife Christine, and their children, Abigail and Jacob of Dublin, Ohio.
Family and friends celebrated her life on March 7 and 8, 2013 at Rutherford Corbin Funeral Home and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Worthington, Ohio. She was laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio following a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael Catholic Church.
