Lake Placid News

Theodore "Ted" Alexander Glowa, Jr., a full-time resident of Onchiota, passed away after a short illness in Sun City, Fla., on Feb. 16, 2013. Ted was 74 years old.

Born Nov. 6, 1938, in West Point, Ted was the only child of Theodore and Madeline Glowa. Ted graduated from Highland Falls High School and The School of Forestry at Syracuse University in 1960.

Ted served in the Army Reserves as a medic. He was the president of The Adirondack Carousel, board member of BluSeed Studios and the Rainbow Lake Water District Commission. He was also a New York state boater safety instructor.

Ted leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Marjorie Glowa; his son, Theodore Glowa III; and his daughters: Karen Ducreay, Pam London and Laura Graye; a daughter-in-law Meghan Glowa; a son-in-law, Bryan Londo; and nine grandchildren: Phillip, Sarah, Mitchell, Alex, Evan, Noah, Toby, Sawyer and Zane. Ted also leaves behind his dog, Noble, who leads the pack of devoted friends and companions who will miss the gentle, generous, loyal, patient guide, devoted, hard-working, dedicated, great man.

He was an avid fisherman and a humble artist able to work beautifully with several mediums including wood and clay. His brilliance was illustrated best in his ability to oversee the creation of The Adirondack Carousel in Saranac Lake, which he saw to completion in May 2012. The Adirondack Carousel, Ted's final contribution to his community, and its beautiful carving of the indigenous animals of the Adirondacks culminated Ted's love of nature, art, wood and community.

In memory of Ted, donations can be made to The Adirondack Carousel at PO Box 1059, Saranac Lake NY 12983.
