Girls soccer surges to win

PORT HENRY - The Lake Placid girls soccer team held off Moriah's late surge Thursday, Oct. 18 to secure a 2-1 victory.

Laura Stanton scored the game's first goal 38 minutes into the first half on a pass from Adele Jesmer to give the Blue Bombers a 1-0 lead. Freshman Liza Marinis gave Lake Placid a two-goal lead at the 17:31 mark of the second half, taking a pass from Brooke Reid.

Moriah made things interesting in the 35th minute of the second half when Sarah Slattery netted an unassisted goal.

Liz Leff made eight saves in goal for the Blue Bombers, who held a 15-14 advantage in shots taken.

Lake Placid improved to 12-1-1 in Northern Soccer League games and 12-3-1 overall.

The Blue Bombers are the top seed in the Section VII, Class C playoffs, which earned them an automatic bid into the semifinal game at Plattsburgh High School on Saturday, Oct. 27. Lake Placid will play the winner of Wednesday's Seton Catholic and Northern Adirondack game.

Lake Placid 0, Willsboro 0, OT

WILLSBORO - The Lake Placid girls soccer team was unable to convert on its many opportunities Wednesday, Oct. 17 and had to settle for a 0-0 tie with Willsboro.

The Blue Bombers unleashed 30 shots, but were stopped by the Willsboro defense and goalkeeper Renee Marcotte who made 22 saves. The game remained tied after two halves and two overtime periods.

Lake Placid's Liz Leff also earned a shutout, making four saves on the six Willsboro shots.

The Blue Bombers improved to 11-1-1 in Northern Soccer League games and 11-3-1 overall with the victory.
