To the editor:
Congratulations to the North Elba Town Council for their courage and foresight in passing a resolution to remove the rail on the Old Forge to Lake Placid Travel Corridor.
After generations in the hospitality business on the Utica/Lake Placid railroad corridor and two generations working on it, I am convinced that those involved in removing the rail in favor of the recreational trail will be considered heroes in our time.
The function of and economic benefit from the conversion to a recreational trail will resound in this century and beyond.
As the building of the railroad served it's time, this trail and the preservation of the corridor will be an important piece in the puzzle of saving the Adirondacks for the enjoyment of those who live here and those who come to visit.
