To the editor:
I would like to commend those members of the North Elba Town Board who voted in favor of the resolution requesting the removal of the tracks between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake.
The current tourist train has had no demonstrable economic benefit, and removing the rails will significantly reduce the estimated $4.5 million cost to build a recreation trail between these towns.
On Monday, Sept. 17, the Albany Times-Union editorialized that the state should not spend any more money on a "train to nowhere."While we'd prefer not to be known as "nowhere," the town board can take credit for being ahead of the Times-Union in making the right call on the railroad.
