LAKE PLACID - The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life was held Saturday on the Olympic Speedskating Oval in Lake Placid. Twenty teams participated. Although the day was overcast and at times a little wet, the first survivors' lap around the oval was greeted by a burst of sunshine as the walk began.
The final amount of money raised for cancer-fighting efforts is not available at this time, but it surpassed last year's total, according to lead organizer Willie Sheridan.
"The emotions of such a day range from tearful remembrance of those we have lost to this dreaded disease to exhilaration when listening to the stories of those who are survivors of the disease," Sheridan said in a press release.
