Lake Placid News

LAKE PLACID - Tickets are now available for Lake Placid Sinfonietta's 95th summer concerts at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.

Using the theme "Inspiring," Music Director Ron Spigelman has programmed the summer's concerts as an exploration of what moves artists to create music and what music can inspire in those that hear it.

"I'm thrilled to bring music that inspires me and highlights the way composers and performers are inspired to create!" Spigelman said.

The six concert series at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts begins on July 8 and continues through Aug.12. All performances are at 7:30 on Sunday evenings, with the exception of July 21, which has been moved to Saturday to avoid conflicts with Ironman traffic.

In addition to being able to purchase a ticket to any one of these concerts, series tickets are available (all six or your choice of any four) and offer the added benefit of same seating at each concert. As in the past, current Lake Placid Sinfonietta members (donors) receive a discount on series purchases.

New this year is a buy-one-get-one-free offer for any new series purchaser (hasn't had series tickets for five or more years) available to the first 46 new series purchasers. To purchase tickets to individual concerts or a series, contact the LPCA box office, 518-523-2512.

The 2012 series kicks off with a concert titled "Adirondack Health's Magic of Mozart" on July 8, an all Mozart evening narrated by noted musicologist and actress Raya Lee, who has created a one person play about the great composer based on letters he wrote to his sister Nanerl. Featured performers at this concert will include the Northern Adirondack Vocal Ensemble (Hill and Hollow Music), Bass Baritone George Cordes, Pianist Alexander Tentser, Soprano Hannah Harrow and Mezzo-soprano Andrea McGaugh. The concert will be dedicated to former Sinfonietta board president and Mozart enthusiast who passed away last winter, David Baxter.

On July 15 two members of the New York Philharmonic, Robert Langevin and Anna Rabinova will appear as guest artists performing Martinu's "Concerto for Violin and Flute."

"Inside the Octagon" on July 21's is Maestro Spigelman's exploration of the number eight.

"I realized that many composers created works centered around eight and have chosen some of the most interesting," Spigelman said. Soprano Laura Enslin will be featured at this concert in a performance of Aaron Copland's "Eight Poems of Emily Dickenson."

On July 29 pianist Navah Perlman makes her Lake Placid debut with Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 1." This concert will be dedicated to former Sinfonietta bassist and librarian Dr. Philip Albright.

On Aug. 5 Beethoven's "Triple Concerto" will feature the ACE trio, comprised of Sinfonietta cellist Ann Alton along with pianist Cristine Coyiuto and violinist Michael Emery.

The final concert of the season on Aug. 12 will feature two orchestra members as soloists: David Pandolfi, horn will be joined by his son Adam (also horn) in a "Suite for two horns and orchestra" by Telemann and concertmaster Daniel Szasz will perform "Hungarian Fantasy for Violin" by Lehar.

The Lake Placid Sinfonietta will also be presenting a series of six Park Series concerts beginning on July 4, a free morning childrens concert on July 18 and will perform in North Creek, Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, Ticonderoga and Jay.
