LAKE PLACID - In recognistion of New York state's first Museum Week, May 31 to June 6, the Lake Placid Olympic Museum reopened Memorial Day weekend, and launched phase one of its new International Sliding Sports Museum (ISSM) at the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.

Among the offerings at the complex are an enhanced walking tour of the 1932/1980 Bobsled run and the new combined track, a special display of the Inaugural Edition of "Lake Placid's Legends of Mt. Van Hoevenberg" banners, and a preliminary exhibit tracing the evolution of sleds in each sport at the Complex's Lamy Lodge, "After developing this project over the past few years and the enthusiastic reception from the local and international community to the announcement of ISSM during the Bobsled World Championships in February, we're pleased to have the ISSM experience finally reaching the public," said the Museum's interim manager Alison Haas.

"We think this is a tremendous opportunity to build on what ORDA's begun with this interactive, living museum at the sliding complex and Museum Week offers the perfect time to show the public what we're doing," said Museum Board president Mary Lou Brown

Future plans include expansion of the Hall of Fame Program, an oral/visual history project, expanding the current collection and a science and technology park.

Museum Week is a state-wide celebration of museums, zoos and botanical gardens, historic homes, living history museums, arts centers and cultural organizations hosting special events and exhibits highlighting the state's rich heritage.
