Harriet E. Wegman died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Born in Rochester, N.Y., September 18, 1920, she was the daughter of John and Marie Walton and the granddaughter of Frank Walton, the fourth mayor of Lake Placid.
She graduated from St. Augustine's Grammar School, Nazareth Academy High School and Nazareth College in Rochester. On August 29, 1942 she married Gerard Wegman, the love of her life and with whom she had seven children.
Harriet moved back to Lake Placid in 1960 where she was active on the school boards of both St. Agnes School in Lake Placid and St. Pius X High School in Saranac Lake. In 1972 she and her husband Gerard moved to Marcellus, N.Y. where they were communicants at St. Francis Xavier Church and where she taught CCD for over a decade.
She also volunteered for Right to Life for many years.
Surviving are her children: Virginia McDaniel, Elaine (Philip) LaDue, Peter (Helen), Patrick, Martin (Susan) and Bernard (Karen); 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Gerard; her daughter, Marigrace; and her granddaughter Mandi.
There will be no calling hours at the request of the family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, June 1 at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid.
