Softball team finishes on a high note with dramatic win

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid softball team won its final regular season home game of the season Tuesday, May 22, downing Northeastern Clinton 5-4.

Senior Dani Balestrini went 3-for-4 and had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a memorable day. She punctuated the victory with a bases-loaded shot that went over the center fielder's head and ended the game.

Balestrini doubled and drove in two runs in the game, while teammates Brooke Reid and Ayla Thompson had two hits apiece.

Lake Placid finished the regular season with a 6-8 record. Northeastern Clinton is 2-12.

Moriah 8, Lake Placid 5

PORT HENRY - The Lake Placid softball team rallied late but had to settle for an 8-5 loss to Moriah on Monday, May 21 in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference game.

The Blue Bombers scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 7-5, but Moriah was able to hold on for the win.

Winning pitcher Lindsay Brace hit a three-run triple in the third inning as the Vikings built a 5-1 lead. Moriah took an 8-1 lead after five innings with two in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Lake Placid 9, NAC 2

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid softball team scored early and often Friday, May 18 on the way to a doubleheader sweep of Northern Adirondack.

The Blue Bombers scored in every inning of the first game on the way to a 15-3 victory, then came back with a 9-2 win in the nightcap.

Kelsey Taylor, Alexis Megliore, Payton Barney and Serina Hayes each had two hits in the first game. Barney went 3-for-3 with two doubles in the second game and Hayes doubled twice and collected four RBI.

Brooke Reid was credited with the win in the first game, while Hayes was the winner in the second game.

BASEBALL

Moriah 6, Lake Placid 4

PORT HENRY - The Lake Placid baseball team was hampered by nine errors in a 6-4 loss to Moriah on Tuesday, May 22.

The Blue Bombers struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning, then extended the lead to 3-0 with another in the second. Moriah answered with four runs in the bottom of the second, before pulling away with two in the sixth.

All six of Moriah's runs were unearned. The Blue Bombers outhit the Vikings 13-4.

Shane McNierney went 4-for-4, Ryan Damp had a single and double and Eddie Kane hit a triple to lead Lake Placid offensively. Damp and Ryan Meyer shouldered the pitching duties.

Jeffrey Greenough was credited with the pitching win after throwing one inning in relief.

Lake Placid will bring a 3-13 record into postseason play, which is slated to begin Friday, May 25. Moriah is 4-10.

Boys

Lake Placid 3, NAC 2

Girls

Lake Placid 5, NAC 0

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid boys team won its first match of the season Monday, May 21, beating Northern Adirondack 3-2.

The girls team blanked NAC 5-0.

Nick Stosiek won his first singles match and the Blue Bombers swept the doubles to secure the victory. Lake Placid's Justin Stosiek and Will Coffrin beat Scott Kellett and Danny Burger, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in first doubles and David Knapic and Steven Jelinek downed Steven Warick and Jared Brunell 6-6, 6-1 at second doubles.

In the girls match, Natalia Smith, Serena Hallowell and Joan O'Leary were all singles winners for the Blue Bombers. Camryn Brooks and Grace McGrew won at first doubles and Victoria O'Leary and Brenna Garrett won at second doubles.

The Lake Placid boys improved to 1-5 on the season, while the girls improved to 5-2. Both teams will be in action today at home against Seton Catholic.
