To the editor:
To the Olympic Regional Development Authority board:
ORDA has been awarded $4 million from New York state to put toward improving the facilities. Now, considering the Olympic Center is more than 30 years old, I believe the money should be spent there. There needs to be a major reconstruction of the locker rooms, especially in the 1932 rink. Considering that Can-Am and Canadian Hockey Enterprises bring more visitors to Lake Placid year-round than any other groups to use the Olympic Center, I believe this money would be well spent.
It would be a crime to lose the number of people who come to our hotels and restaurants because these locker rooms are so old and, frankly, disgusting. I am surprised that some parents have not told their kids to not use the showers in the arena without wearing sandals. There are other places these tournaments can be held, more modern places. Granted, they do not have the history and name of Lake Placid, but we should not blindly think teams will automatically come to Lake Placid.
Sincerely,
Michael Hurley
