LAKE PLACID - Serina Hayes scored the winning run in the eighth inning as the Lake Placid softball team picked up its first victory of the season Saturday, April 21 with an 11-10 win over AuSable Valley.

After AuSable Valley took the lead with five runs in the top of the seventh, the Blue Bombers responded with three in the bottom half to send the game to extra innings. The Patriots were unable to score in the top of the eighth, setting the stage for Lake Placid to put the game away.

In the eighth, Hayes reached first base on an error and stole second. She moved to third on a passed ball, then came home with the winning run on another passed ball.
