LP softball falls in opening game

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid softball team took an early lead in its opener Tuesday, April 17, but was unable to hold on as Ticonderoga rallied to a 15-2 victory at the North Elba Show Grounds.

Melissa Pockett led the way offensively for the Sentinels with a single and a grand slam home run.

Jordan McKee struck out six, walked two and gave up two hits to earn the pitching win for Ticonderoga.

Brooke Reid and Payton Barney accounted for the Blue Bombers' hits.

After Lake Placid scored single runs in the first and second innings, the Sentinels responded with two runs in the third, eight in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth to lock up the win.

Serina Hayes and Reid took care of the pitching duties for Lake Placid.

It was the first game of the season for both teams.

Lake Placid returns to action Saturday, April 21 at home against AuSable Valley.
