Bombers baseball wins opener, drops second game

TICONDEROGA - The Lake Placid baseball team scored six runs over the final two innings to secure a 7-6 victory over Ticonderoga in its season-opener Monday, April 16.

Blue Bombers freshman Ryan Damp accounted for the game-winning hit with two outs in the top of the seventh when he brought in two runs with a single. Senior J.P. Morrison, who entered in the fourth inning, closed out the game on the mound for his first win of the season.

Lake Placid is coming off a 1-13 season last year, while Ticonderoga was the Section VII, Class D champion.

The Sentinels took a 6-1 lead Monday after scoring three runs in the third inning then three more in the fourth. Nate Lenhart collected three hits for Ticonderoga and Miles Austin had a single, triple and two RBI.

Lake Placid returns to action today on the road against Franklin Academy.

Franklin Academy 22, Lake Placid 4

MALONE - The Lake Placid baseball team scored all four of its runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday, April 17 in a 22-4 loss to Franklin Academy.

The Blue Bombers evened their record at 1-1 with the defeat.

Franklin Academy opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with seven runs and never looked back on the way to collecting 14 hits in the game. Derek Juntunen and Shawn Mulverhill each went 3-for-4, while winning pitcher Brandon Welch hit a double and triple.

Ryan Damp doubled to account for one of Lake Placid's four hits. R.J. Reid took the loss on the mound.
