New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) nordic athletes headed to Utah in early March for the USSA Junior National Championships in Park City and Midway.
The competition kicked off with nordic combined in Park City. On the first day, Will Rhoads of the Northwood School in Lake Placid earned a gold medal on the K68-meter hill in the J1 boys division.
Annie Frenette of Saranac Lake claimed the bronze medal in the J1 girls class.

Rhoads picked up another gold medal the second day when he was the top jumper in the elimination event.
On the final day of nordic combined, Luke Daniels of the Northwood School and Miles Lussi of Lake Placid moved up from fourth place after the jumping competition to second place on the cross-country course in the team relay. Daniels and Lussi earned the silver medal in the J2 boys class for their efforts.
The cross-country skiing specific competitions took place at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah. With more than 450 of the best racers from around the country competing, this event included classic sprints, mass start skate races, an individual start classic race and the three-athlete skate relay on the final day.
Nina Armstrong of Lake Placid led the way for NYSEF, with a 39th-place finish in the classic sprint, a 24th in the freestyle race and a 26th in the classic race.
Teammate Anna Izzo of Lake Placid was 46th in the classic sprint, 45th in the freestyle race and 41st in the classic event.
Maeve Peabody of Lake Placid finished 34th in the classic sprint and 61st in the classic race.
Maile Sapp competed in the J1 girls division, taking 58th in the classic sprint, 76th in the skate race and 49th in the 5-kilometer classic race.
On the boys side, Will Fieroh placed 70th in the classic sprint, 69th in the skate race and 65th in the classic race. He was competing in the J1 boys division.
