WILMINGTON - The ski season ended at Whiteface Mountain on Sunday.
"It's official, Whiteface Mountain ... will close for the season at the end of the day, this Sunday," Jon Lundin, spokesman for the state Olympic Regional Development Authority which runs the ski center, wrote Friday in an email sent out to the media.
Lundin had left open the possibility that the ski area would open this coming weekend as recently as last week, but that optimism faded after a several days of unseasonably warm weather.
The closure means there will be no end-of-the-season pond skimming contest, which was scheduled for April 1.
