Elizabeth D. Curtis died on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012

Betty Curtis was born Oct. 4, 1921 and grew up in Pelham, New York. She attended The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Vassar College. She was President of the student body while at Baldwin. In 1941 she married Zay B. Curtis, Jr. They had two children,

Zay B. Curtis, III and Blakeslee Gale Curtis. Gale died in an automobile accident the summer after graduating from Smith College at the age of 21.

Betty and Zay resided in Fairfield, Connecticut; Wynnewood, Pennsylvania; and Summit, New Jersey before moving to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida in 1980. While in Summit, Betty served on the boards of the Summit Area Red Cross, the Summit Family Services Association, and was President of the Junior League of Summit. She was also very active in Children's Theater productions. Betty and Zay were a members of the Baltusrol Golf Club. She did all this while being very active and successful in real estate sales.

In Ponte Vedra Beach, Betty was active in Christ Episcopal Church as a member of the Altar Guild and the Chapel Guild. She served as President of the Women of the Church and a member of the Vestry. She was a member of the Ponte Vedra Club where she played golf.

She is survived by her son Zay; three granddaughters: Cindy Manning (Ted), Laurie Curtis Dudley (John) and Betsy Synnott (John); and four great-grandchildren: Lucas and Gillian McLean, and Birch and Jack Synnott.

Betty was buried with her husband Zay at Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 at Saint Eustace Episcopal Church in Lake Placid, New York.
