To the editor:
The Ecumenical Charity Program thanks the following: Central Garage, Subway, Hannaford, Price Chopper, Uihlein potato farm, WSLP-FM and the Salvation Army for their contributions to the "Thanksgiving Baskets" that were distributed to those in need.
The Ecumenical Charity Program was able to distribute more than 300 baskets, consisting of turkey, onions, potatoes, celery, stuffing, fruit, vegetable, spices, cranberry sauce, bread and pie.
The volunteers who helped put the baskets together are thanked as well. These 35 children, parents and friends volunteered on Sunday to organize the distribution as well as 50 volunteers who worked on Monday for the actual distribution. Individuals also donated monies and supplies.
We thank everyone. We also the people within the community to realize that Thanksgiving is only one meal but there are many who need food for the rest of the week and for the weeks ahead.
The food pantry supplied 168 households, consisting of 166 children and 255 adults, in October 2011. The program also provides transportation, heating, assistance in housing, medical, perscription costs, etc.
It depends totally on contributions from people like you. It is a tax-deductible donation. Please, at this time of year when we are giving, remember the Ecumenical Charity Program.
Thank you again for the produce, monies and the volunteer work. It has truly been appreciated by all.
