Anytime a community loses one of its members, it is a sad day. When a community loses someone who cared as deeply for his community as Vern Lamb, it is all the more sadder.
The Lamb family was among the first settlers of Lake Placid and Vern realized his strong connection to the area, which translated into a true passion for his
community. He and Lake Placid were bound together.
Vern - and others whose names are synonymous with Lake Placid - helped made this village what it is today through their tireless promotion of Lake Placid and the important role played in bringing the 1980 Winter Olympic Games to our small village.
Of course, there were many others who helped make Lake Placid what it is, and their legacy should not be diminished with this ode to Vern Lamb.
Vern is just another on a long list of residents who gave their heart and soul to Lake Placid. Clearly, it is individuals such as Vern Lamb that has kept this hamlet on the map and has made the name Lake Placid known throughout the world.
Hopefully, current residents of the Olympic Village take a page out of Vern's book and embrace this
community in such a manner and help Lake Placid remain as one of the best places on earth.
