WILMINGTON - The Summit Quad Chair began bringing skiers and snowboarders to the top of Whiteface Mountain on Friday and several of the upper mountain trails were open over New Year's weekend.
The Follies and Paron's Run were open to snow enthusiasts and as of Tuesday, Whiteface had 35 trails open and 7 lifts operating on a primary surface of packed powder and the mountain received 3 to 5 inches of new snow overnight, according to the ski area's report.
Lake effect snow has been hitting the Adirondacks on Monday, and the National Weather Service predicts up to 6 inches of snow accumulating by Tuesday morning in Tupper Lake and up to 4 inches in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.
