To the editor:
On Aug. 20, USA Luge and WSLP 93.3 FM teamed up to present the second USA Luge Open Start Championships, presented by Lake Placid Craft Brewing. This event was created to provide an opportunity for locals and visitors to experience luge and to learn more about the sport at the USA Luge headquarters in Lake Placid.
With the support of sponsors and participants who made this event possible, USA Luge was able to raise $3,000 for our athletes and programs. We gave away great prizes, which included airline tickets, hotel rooms, ski passes, luggage and USA Luge merchandise.
The Open Start Championships were a great success; we had over 60 participants compete, including 2010 Olympic Bobsled Gold Medalist Steve Holcomb, who posted the fastest time of the competition. With his win Steve, earned a chance to compete in the USA Luge National Start Championships. He will race against members of the USA Luge National and Junior National Teams.
The public is invited to check out this fun, free event taking place at 57 Church St. in Lake Placid on Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.
On behalf of the USA Luge and WSLP 93.3 FM, we would like to thank our sponsors and supporters, who assisted us in raising funds during a fun and successful event.
