It is time once again for the annual Kiwanis Teddy Bear Picnic and parade, and it’s a great opportunity for parents to treat their children to a truly special Lake Placid event.
The event was first organized by long-time Kiwanian and former columnist for the Lake Placid News Barbara Kelly. Over the years, under Barbara’s and other Kiwanian’s leadership, it has grown into one of the most highly anticipated family events in the Olympic Village.
The Kiwanis Teddy Bear Picnic will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18 (see page 3) and if you have young children, please do not pass up this event. It will certainly provide them with a memorable, fun experience. And, parents will have fun too! Children, and parents too, are encouraged to wear their finest bear-related costume— and prizes will be given away.
Besides the fun, the event just might be educational as the theme is “The Teddy Bears Go Green!”
Service organizations in our community such as the Kiwanis, Rotary Club and Lions Club represent a vital aspect of community life, and community support not only helps these groups thrive, but helps them continue to bring us such great events.
Each group has regular meetings and those interested in joining are welcome to attend. Here’s a list of where and when they meet:
Kiwanis: meets weekly each Tuesday evening at The Cellar Bistro in Lake Placid. For more information, call Joan at 523-1133 or Jo Ann at 523-4161.
Rotary: meets weekly each Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant
Lions: meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Howard Johnson’s Restaraunt.
