To the editor,
I recently competed in and completed Ironman Lake Placid. It was my sixth Ironman finish in as many locations all around the country. I brought a friend who completed his first Ironman triathlon, and we were joined by our wives. We all had a fantastic time. Thank you, Lake Placid! This was my favorite course.
Although the promoters apologized for the condition of the roads, we found them all to be in much better shape than those we trained on here in Michigan. The course, rich in athletic history, and surrounding area was absolutely beautiful.
The people of Lake Placid were very welcoming and nothing like I expected after having the misfortune of visiting New York City in the past.
We will be returning to Lake Placid, whether to race another Ironman or simply to vacation. It would be a huge mistake for the Ironman promoters to stop holding this epic event at a destination area like Lake Placid and to replace it with another event near New York City. I hope they decide otherwise.
