AROUND AUSABLE

The AVCS Junior Prom was held on May 14. The crowning was held at the school and the following were crowned Royalty: King, Cody Langley; Queen, Hannah Root; Prince, Brody Douglass; Princess, Cammey Keyso; Duke, Sebastian Pray; Dutchess, Samkele Allie; Crown Bearers were: Haley Hickey, Lily Keysor, Porter Goodman and James Kelty. Congratulations to all. 

Following the prom, 78 students gathered at Riverside Lanes in AuSable Forks for the After Prom Party. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed bowling, playing games, watching movies, listening to music and enjoying the fake tattoo machine. They were served delicious M & M Diner Pizza. There were lots of prizes awarded including movie passes and gift cards. Everyone enjoyed a fun-filled night and were safely bused home in the wee hours. Hats off to chaperones Steph Snow, Renee Rhino, Mr. Fay and bus driver Helen Coolidge who made sure they were safe, happy and entertained on this very special night.     

The 18th annual Spaghetti Dinner/Auction to benefit the Holy Name School was a huge success.This event was held on May 7 at the American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks. A huge crowd attended and enjoyed the delicious spaghetti dinner. Compliments to Chef Tami Bushey who made the sauce. Following dinner the auction began. Ed McCallister did his usual fantastic job and many beautiful items were on the auction block till the wee hours of the morning. Cooke Kurz was the lucky winner of the 50/50. The committee members thank everyone who helped in any way make this event so successful. They look forward to the 19th annual next May.     

Sharkies Dollies Bowling League held their awards evening on May 13 at Riverside Lanes. Congratulations to the following winners: Most points, tie between Steph Snow and Lola Porter, 58.5; High Average, Steph Snow 179; Most Improved, Peggy Fournier, 15 points; and Sportsmanship Award, Shawn Minogue.

Ryans Team were League Champions. Tuesday Night Mahogany Ridge League winner was VFW Post 1505   Sharron Belanger, Mary Lawrence, Rhonda Rushia,and Joanne Hilt. Congratulations girls.

The bowling season has ended for all leagues. Plan ahead now for the fall season where the following leagues need bowlers. Wednesday Morning Women league need two four-lady teams. Bowling starts at 9:30 a.m., and is a lot of fun. Contact Allyson Braid at 834-9177 if you would like to bowl or want to enter a team, Wednesday night men are in need of bowlers, contact PK Coolidge if interested. Thursday Night Women need two ladies 4-person teams. Anyone interested in this league contact Deanna at 569-8828 or Steph 578-5567. Friday Night Mixed League consists of two men and two women. If interested call 647-9905 and leave message.

May 21 will be the Town of Jay Cleanup Day. This service is free to residents of Town of Jay from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No business’s please. Bring all allowed items to the collection site at the Highway Department on Valley Road in Jay. Children must remain in vehicles at all times. Proof of residency is required upon request.      

The AuSable Forks Free Library will host a Spring Cleaning Bag and Tag Sale on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. Fill a bag with books, audiobooks, cds, dvds, videos and magazines for $2. There will also be a large quantity of tag sale Items available.     

The Rotary Club annual Walk A Thon will be held on Saturday, May 21 beginning at 1 p.m. Meet at Lake Eaton where the walk will continue through the Acres and end at the ambulance station in AuSable Forks where all participants will be served lunch. For more information, cantact Linda Dubay at 647-5302. All proceeds will benefit the Scholarship Program.    

The AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Department will host a Chicken Barbecue with all the fixings at the station on Saturday, May 21 starting at 3 p.m. and will continue until all are served. Menu includes half-chicken, corn on the cob, choice of two side salads, baked beans, dessert and beverage. Eat in or take out. $7.50 adults, $6 seniors (60 and up) and children 5-12. Children under 5 eat free.     



My sincere condolences to the family of a very dear Lady Cindy Casler, 52, of North Carolina, former resident of town who passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on May 7. Cindy was a very caring person and devoted much of her life helping others. She assisted many students, organizations and individuals in many ways and was always there in a crisis and stepped up to the plate to do whatever had to be done. A Mass of Christian burial was held May 14 at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks. Cindy will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and many friends. RIP Cindy
