To the editor:
On March 5th, USA Luge and Rock 105/Mountain Communications teamed up to present the second Adirondack International Toboggan Championships. This event was created in Memory of Jeff and Janine Abbott for their long time involvement in the community and Mr. Gerald. F. Cassidy for his love of the toboggan competition in Lake Placid. With the support of community leaders and sponsors who made this event possible, we were able to raise more than $7,000, with all proceeds directly benefiting the athletes, programs and teams of USA Luge. As organizers of this event, we were able to offer the public great prizes which included airline tickets, hotel rooms, ski passes, medals, trophies, cash prizes, items donated from local merchants and much more.
Despite unrelenting weather conditions, the second annual Rock 105 Adirondack International Toboggan Championship was a great success; we had over 40 teams compete in the race. Although we were unable to hold the event at the toboggan chute, we were able to move the event indoors to the USA Luge start ramp located next to the Adirondack Medical Center on Church Street in Lake Placid. We plan to return to the toboggan chute for next year’s event and see the return of the Mayor’s Cup.
On behalf of the United States Luge Association we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our sponsors, supporters, friends and families. This key group assisted USA Luge and Rock 105/Mountain Communications in raising much-needed funds for our athletes while bringing a fun and exciting new event to the area.
