LAKE PLACID — Bernard J. Ward Jr., age 91, of Uihlein Mercy Center and formerly of 89 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Adirondack Medical Center at Lake Placid.
Born in New York City on Feb. 27, 1920, he was the son of Bernard and Mary (Sheehan) Ward Sr. Bernard married Harriet LaPan on Aug. 9, 1963 in Hobe Sound, Fla.
Mr. Ward had been a resident of Greenwood for the past 13 years and more recently of Uihlein. Prior to that he had been employed as a hotel manager for various hotels including the Lake Placid Lodge, Palm Beach Spas in Florida and in the Bahamas.
Mr. Ward was a veteran of the United States Army Company B, 612th Tank Destroyer Battalion, and served during World War II from 1942 to 1943.
He is survived by a brother-in-law, James LaPan of Saranac Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife Harriet; his father Bernard Ward Sr.; and his mother Mary Sheehan.
A Mass of Christian burial took place at on Tuesday, April 19 at Uihlein Mercy Center with the Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiating. Burial was at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga Springs.
