The fundraiser held for Luke Randy Garcia at Riverside Lanes on March 26 was a HUGE success. This event began at 1 p.m. with a 9 pin bowling tournament. Shifts continued on at 4 and 7 p.m. with all shifts filled to capacity. Delicious Michigan dinners were served with delicious sauce thanks to Keith Furnia’s secret recipe. The first huge batch was depleted and a second batch was brought to the rescue. The place was beautifully decorated with beautiful pictures of Luke everywhere.
Bracelets for CHD Awareness stating Love For Luke were sold, along with paper hearts where messages were written and displayed on the wall. The place was filled to capacity the entire day. Many raffle tickets and 50/50s were sold throughout the day and prior to the event. May beautiful raffle items were displayed along with the numerous items for the auction.
Alyssa Rosio DJ Service played wonderful tunes throughout the event. Marla and Chad were in attendance and stated they were overwhelmed with the show of love and support they have received form near and far.
At the close of the bowling tournament with 24 teams participating the following were winners: 1st place, Shifty Truckers, 4006, Mike Thomas, Kelly McDonald, Dave Hart, Deanna Santor and Kevin Parrow; 2nd place, Hammer Time, 3875, Sarah Braid, Shawn Minogue, Kellen Nolan, Bernie LaDuke and Pat Parrow; 3rd Place, Ali’s Bunch, 3873, Barry Ano, Allyson Braid, Keena Banker, Jody Varno and Mike Ano; 4th place, Guys & Gals, 3854, Carole Osborne, Helen Snow, Derrick Martineau, Pamela Shambo and AJ Osborne. Congratulations to Dave Hart, Mike Thomas and Kellen Nolan who all bowled a 300 game in this tournament.
The live auction with auctioneer Jamie Martineau began promptly at 7 p.m. and continued for hours with many wonderful donated items on the auction block. Jamie did a fantastic job and the auction was a HUGE success. The 50/50 was won by Chris Hozley and he generously donated back to the fund a portion of his winnings.
Overall this was a fantastic day for Luke Randy Garcia. Thanks to each and every one who attended and supported this event. Hats off to Luke’s Aunt Monica Thomas for the wonderful way she organized this event and to all the volunteers who helped in so many ways. We all will continue to pray for Luke as he continues his journey.
The AuSable Forks Fire Deptartment held its awards banquet on March 26 at the American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks. One hundred twenty-five members and guest attended and enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken or prime rib. Following dinner the 2010-11 officers presented the awards. The following awards were presented: Firefighter of the Year, John Roy; Most Improved, Duane Cumber; Most Dedicated, Bobby Rondeau; Co-Rookies of the Year, Brooke Leon and Chris Thwailts Jr.
Randy Douglas was emcee and music was provided by Sound Obsession featuring DJ Randy Bosley. A very enjoyable evening was had by all those attending. Hats off to our fire department for the wonderful dedication in serving our community. You are all very much appreciated.
A 9-pin Bowling Tournament to benefit the Community Action Angels Baby Shower will be held at Riverside Lanes on April 2. Although the 7 p.m. shift is filled the 4 pm shift has openings. Call 647-9905 to reserve a lane. There will be raffles and 50/50’s. Community Action angels is a volunteer program operated locally by Adirondack Community Action Programs. This event will help raise funds to purchase baby items for infants and children up to 2 years of age.
My condolences to the family of Viola Boggs, 92, of Alabama who passed away on March 21. She is the aunt of Shirley Thomas. Viola was a very dedicated reader of my column and anxiously awaited the arrival of her paper each week. She was buried on her 93rd birthday on March 23. RIP Viola.

Beginning April 27 handmade rugs by Judy O’Tolle and watercolor paintings by Tom Geoghan will be on exhibit.
The lucky winner of the $300 raffle held by the Sons of The American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks was Morgan Himmel. Proceeds from this raffle will be used to benefit local youth programs sponsered by the Sons.
The AuSable Forks Fire Department will host its Firehouse Big Breakfast on April 3 from 8 to 11 a.m. Menu will include: French toast, pancakes (reg. and blueberry), sausage gravy and biscuits, white or wheat toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries and mixed fruit. Beverages include coffee, tea, orange juice or milk. Adults $7, seniors $6 and children $5. Eat in or take out.
The CVAC has selected its All-Academic Team for the fall session and the chosen athletes from AuSable Valley Central School are: Alex Casey, swimming, student council vice president, Key Club vice president, National Honors Society vice president, Senior Class vice president, German Exchange Club, Honors Society — enrolled in dual-credit courses at local community college, swimming, three-year captain (10th-12th), basketball, high honors; Sean Connors, cross country, cross country captain, swimming, track, German club vice president, Boys State Delegate, Math League participant.
Luke Randy Garcia has been a little under the weather this week. He has the sniffles and is just not feeling up to par. and hopefully this will pass with no problems. Please continue to pray for little Luke as he continues his journey to Boston and Vermont to be monitored with his heart problem.
Roy Ano is presently as of this writing (Monday morning) receiving another round of chemo at CVPH. He has been examined at Boston Hospital and will have a bone marrow transplant at a future date. His family members are being screened to become possible donors. Roy thanks everyone for their concern and prayers and asks that everyone please continue to pray for him.
Jackie Ashley Kimbel continues her treatment and chemo begins soon. She now is suffering from shingles and will be treated for this prior to starting her next round of treatment. Jackie loves heraing from her many friends back home and states it really makes my day to hear from my many friends in the North Country. Please continue to send her cards and well wishes to 110 Dutton Dr. New Castle, DE 19720-5454. Please continue to pray for Jackie.
