Once again Lake Placid is pulling together to host a high-profile event with the Empire State Games, which take place Feb. 25 to 27.
Hats off to all those in the community who are planning to make this another successful endeavor for the Olympic Village.
There is no one individual who is responsible for making this, or any other event a success. It is the combined efforts of many people, groups, organizations and town and village entities.
A good number of people volunteer their time and energy — and all for the sake of making sure those who visit Lake Placid leave with a memory.
Above all, this event is for the young athletes competing in the Games. But what would the experience be without a celebration?
Residents, service organizations, village and town departments and a long list of volunteers have banded together to make sure the athletes and community gets a party they deserve: The Festival of the Games.
Thanks again to everyone who is joining in to keep the name of Lake Placid among the special places not only in the state, but the entire United States.
Those who wish, may still send a donation to Lake Placid-Essex County Quality Destinations Inc., the nonprofit responsible for the Games, 49 Parkside Drive, Lake Placid, NY 12946 or visit the games’ website at
No one asked volunteers to put on such a spectacular event. They did it, because it’s the right thing to do.
