Author event was a rare treat

Lake Placid News
To the editor:

I would like to thank Sarah and Marc Galvin from The Bookstore Plus for supporting our local students and educators and for their community spirit. Last week, Sarah and Marc brought two authors to Lake Placid: Laurie Halse Anderson and Robin Antelek.

Ms. Anderson is a best-selling young adult and children’s author who spoke to students and faculty at both Lake Placid Middle/High School and North Country School. She gave a dynamic presentation about becoming a writer, her writing process, the importance of revision and her new historical thriller, “Forge.” Later in the afternoon, she led a panel discussion with parents, librarians and educators on the importance of fiction in the classroom. On Thursday evening at the Mirror Lake Inn, Ms. Antelek gave a reading to a group of about 30 local women organized by Sarah Galvin, Kristen Sayers and Mary Jane Lawrence. Meeting and listening to two authors in three days is pretty impressive. Thank you, Sarah and Marc and your staff at The Bookstore Plus, for bringing such special opportunities to our students and community.

Thank you,

Amy Spicer
