To the editor:
Hi everyone, from an old Adirondacker. I suggest that the tracks be removed and the railroad bed be converted to a bike trail. When I was in the Navy, I rode the train from Utica to Saranac Lake. The service was so bad and undependable, it is a wonder that the line ran as long as it did. I live in Pennsylvania near the 62-mile Pine Creek Bike Trail through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. This trail is enormously popular and is a converted rail bed from a railroad that ended in the early ’60s.
There are so many user possibilities for an Adirondack bike trail. For example: dual bike and horse trail in the summer and dual snow machine and cross-country ski in the winter. So many little towns for access. A jewel waiting to be discovered.
