To the editor:
The Lake Placid Business Association, which is comprised of more than 80 different businesses, has formed an independent, parking and traffic committee. This committee, while looking at all aspects of the parking and traffic situation in Lake Placid, has taken specific interest in the central parking lot on Main Street known as the NBT lot.
The retaining wall was found structurally unsound and as a temporary fix to maintain parking capacity the village added steel reinforcement. The wall is still in need of excavation and permanent repair. This committee feels this is an opportunity for the village to be able to solve a long time problem of parking in the downtown corridor.
A parking garage in this location has been investigated and approved by separate state Department of Transportation and engineering surveys the village spent thousands of dollars on a few years ago. A parking garage would be a great investment in the future of our downtown corridor making it more convenient for residents and tourists alike.
The committe has drawn up a letter of support that has more than 100 signatures from residents and business owners in the Main Street corridor who show support for our village leaders to investigate garage options for the NBT site.
If you would like to sign the letter of support, which will be presented to the village board in November, there will be one at Fanfare, The Bookstore Plus and Beglin’s Jewlers. Please contact Marc at The Bookstore Plus at 518-523-2950 or
