To the editor:
A group of friends and colleagues have taken it upon ourselves to try and organize the purchase of backpacks and the collection of school supplies to be distributed to students whose families might not otherwise be able to do so in these tough economic times.
Laurie Curtis Dudley at the Town Hall has been gracious enough to provide a drop-off location for supplies or monetary donations (cash) that our group will use to purchase backpacks, fill will age appropriate school supplies and distribute to families in need. Please drop off your donation by Aug. 31 so we can make deliveries prior to the start of the school year.
Since this is a “grassroots” effort, we are not part of any not-for-profit organization and therefore cannot offer any tax deductable incentive. We are simply a group of people trying to make a difference and hope that you will assist us in our endeavors.
Please contact Pat Jorgensen at 523-0036 for more information or to find out how you can help us make sure that every local student has the tools they need to start the new school year off on the right foot.
