Citizens of the Olympic Region and North Country should speak their minds when it comes to the proposed $6.6 million cutback to the Olympic Regional Development Authority and closure of the Moriah Shock Incarceration Facility.
One action would be to contact the state governor directly with your thoughts through the mail (Gov. David Paterson, State Capitol, Albany, NY 12224) or by phone at 518-474-8390. He can also be reached via an online comment form at www.state.ny.us/governor/contact/GovernorContactForm.php.
In addition, Essex County recently created two online petitions — one to ask for state funding for ORDA and one to ask that Moriah Shock be kept open.
Paterson had proposed closing the prison in his 2010-11 Executive Budget, and it would also close in the Senate’s budget proposal. The Assembly’s, however, would keep it open.
The petitions can be found at www.co.essex.ny.us.
This is a great opportunity to let your voice be heard on two budget cuts that if followed through, would certainly impact the quality of life of so many of our friends and neighbors. Don’t miss this moment.
