LAKE PLACID — Charlotte Mary Shumway, 96, a resident of Greenwood Street, Lake Placid since 1933, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at AMC-Uihlein, where she had resided since Nov. 11, 2003.
She was born June 21, 1913 in Saranac Lake, the daughter of Gurney and Charlotte (LeMaire) Raymond. She married Halsey “Bill” Shumway on April 16, 1932 in AuSable Forks.
Charlotte was a homebody and loved hunting, fishing and camping with her husband. She also loved gardening and spending holidays with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Aiken of Lake Placid; one granddaughter Cindy Muehle and her husband Kirk of Windham, Maine; two grandsons: Andrew Aiken and his wife Tammy of Fabius and Bruce P. Aiken of Colchester, Vt.; and four great-grandchildren: Breezy Muehle, Brent Muehle, Kristen Aiken and Dan Aiken.
She was predeceased by her husband on March 25, 1992, and one daughter, Shirley Smart, on Oct. 10, 2002.
There were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 25 at Reiss Memorial Chapel in AMC-Uihlein with the Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiating. Burial followed in St. Agnes Cemetery.
The Clark Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
