Valerie Patterson Vassar

    LAKE?PLACID?— Valerie Patterson Vassar, 57, of 89 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.


    She was born in Lake Placid March 23, 1952, the daughter of Elbert and Eunice (Gadwaw) Patterson.


    Val had worked in Lake Placid as waitress, cook and/or manager at various local restaurants including the Charcoal Pit and the Cascade Inn, retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. Eustace Episcopal Church in Lake Placid.


    Val is survived by her father and her stepmother, Joan (Valenze) Patterson, both of Black Brook; one son, Casey Thomas Vassar, and his twin sister, Carrie Ann Vassar Schang, both of Buffalo; two sisters: Cindy Adams and Todd Hoyt of Florida and Debbie Graham and her husband John Rovito of Evington, Va.; five brothers: Randy Patterson and his wife Alice, Harland “Scott” Patterson, James Patterson, Pat Patterson and his wife Donna, and Tony Patterson, all of Lake Placid; two grandchildren: Jessica and Thomas Lavry of Buffalo; several nieces, nephew, cousins and great nieces; and special friends Kay, Stewart and Mary Ann.


    Val was predeceased by her mother, Eunice (Gadwaw) Patterson and one brother, Robert Patterson.


    Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside prayer service at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21 at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.


    In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to High Peaks Hospice. The Clark Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
