A big welcome goes out to all the Ironman participants and their families who have traveled to the Olympic Village to take part in a grueling test of human endurance. Hopefully, everyone enjoys their stay here.
For those who compete in the annual race or come up just to check out the festivities and haven’t heard, there’s been an ongoing issue of confrontations between motorists and those who use the area’s roadways to train for the Ironman triathlon.
There’s also a chance that the Ironman may someday be taken out of Lake Placid and be held in another state.
Several local businesses and organizations have spearheaded a campaign to inform athletes as to the “rules of the road” and communicate to those who live in the region about the benefits of hosting such a wonderful event.
So, while you’re in town Iron men and women, supporters and fans — please make it known just how much you enjoy having the Ironman in Lake Placid. More importantly, help spread the word to those who train here that maintaining good rapport is vital.
Both sides must understand and respect each other’s point of view — so they can work together to ensure the Ironman stays in the Olympic Region.
