LAKE PLACID — Derma Peryea Thew, 82, of Wilmington Road in Lake Placid, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born on June 15, 1926 in Bangor, she was the daughter of Stephen and Mary (DeGray) Peryea.
Derma was a graduate of Lake Placid High School's class of 1945. She was the wife of Charles Thew and worked in Lake Placid for the New York Telephone Company for 17 years.
She was a devoted wife and mother; her family was always first in her thoughts and in her care. Mr. and Mrs. Thew built and operated the Redwood Motel on Wilmington Road, which opened in 1960. Mr. Thew died in 1981, and Mrs. Thew continued to operate the motel and welcomed both returning and new guests to the Lake Placid area.
She is survived by her son, Eric Thew and his significant other, Julie Walzak; her sister, Doris Fell; her brother, Eugene Peryea and his wife Lois, all of Lake Placid; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Charles; two sisters: Dorothy Tomasch and Doretta Morford; and three brothers: Douglas, Dewey and Donald Peryea.
Per Derma’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in North Elba Cemetery.
The Clark Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Thew may be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.
