Congratulations to Jason Leon on being appointed as village trustee. He will replace Peter Roy who resigned in April.
Selecting Leon was the right choice for mayor Craig Randall to make, even though Randall is a Republican, and Leon is a Democrat. It is not known how many other individuals were being considered for the post, but Leon was a no-brainer.
Leon is a youthful and energetic member of the community — and he should provide inspiration to others in the community to get involved in local politics.
Judging by Leon’s demeanor during the recent campaign for trustee, which he lost, he should bring dedication and that same hard work ethic to the board. Leon worked hard during the campaign and earned respect throughout the community, regardless of their party affiliation. He was also gracious in defeat.
Selecting an interim village board member was the first test imposed upon new mayor Randall, and he passed. The upcoming decisions regarding budget issues may not be as easy as this one.
