KEENE?VALLEY — Pauline “Polly” Jaques moved on to Heaven Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown. Polly was born Nov. 29, 1922 in Rouses Point, the second child of Lester and Margaret Recor.
After graduating from high school, Polly graduated from Champlain-Valley Nursing school in 1943. Shortly after, she moved to Keene Valley, the bride of Lee Jaques. She spent 44 years of unselfish dedication to the community, its people and neighbors. The first 36 years were spent as nurse for Dr. Alphonso Goff. After Dr. Goff retired, Polly then helped transform the Keene Valley Hospital into the Keene Valley Neighborhood House as the first director of the facility.
Polly is survived by her three sons: Pat Jaques and wife Carolyn of Elizabeth City, N.C., George Jaques and his wife Mary, and Larry Jaques and wife Liz, all of Keene Valley; two grandsons: Jason Jaques and wife Ann-Marie of Poqoson, Va. and Daniel Jaques and wife Ashley of Escondido, Calif.; three granddaughters: Christine Gagnon and husband Christopher of Kiowa, Colo., Barbara Lopez and husband Enrique, of Wellington, Fla. and Andrea Destromp and husband Tory of Baltimore, Md.; one great-granddaughter and six great-grandsons.
She was predeceased by her husband Lee; her parents; her sister Helena Absher; and her brother Russell Recor. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Brannan of Newport News, Va.
