Edward L. Clarey

LAKE PLACID — Edward L. Clarey, 90, of 185 Old Military Road, Lake Placid, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at Adirondack Medical Center-Uihlein. He was born in Syracuse on March 30, 1918, the son of Ross and Irene (Marcely) Clarey. Mr. Clarey was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He married Beatrice Frayne in November 1946 at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. He worked in Lake Placid for 38 years at the Lake Placid Hardware Store, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the American Legion Post 326 in Lake Placid. He is survived by his wife Beatrice (Frayne) Clarey of Lake Placid; two sons: Michael Clarey and his wife Sue Anne of Minoa, and James Clarey and his wife Sue Ellen of Manlius; one brother, John Fleegel of East Syracuse; one sister, Jeanne O’Brien of Phelps; four grandchildren; one niece Karen Caligiore and her husband Sandy; and one great-niece, Aimee Caligiore. Calling hours were held Monday, Feb. 9 at the Reiss Memorial Chapel at AMC-Uihlein, 185 Old Military Road, Lake Placid. A Mass of Christian burial followed at noon at the Reiss Memorial Chapel in AMC-Uihlein. The Rev. Philip Allen will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in May. The family requests that donations be made to the Uihlein Mercy Center, 185 Old Military Road, in his memory. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
