LAKE PLACID — Hoover C. Barney, 79, of Balsam Street, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at his home.
Born May 11, 1929 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Alfred and Mazie (Patterson) Barney. He married Joyce M. Bowen Sept. 25, 1954 in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Saranac Lake.
Hoover attended Lake Placid High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1948 to 1954. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Barney had worked in Lake Placid for the Lake Placid Village Electric Department for more than 37 years, and retired in 1991 as line foreman. Hoover was a dedicated volunteer and was an instrumental part in the formation of the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service. He served as a volunteer ambulance driver for over 22 years.
Hoover had a great sense of humor and was always ready to tell or hear a good joke.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of Lake Placid; three daughters: Cheryl Perry and her husband Steve of Greene, Maine, Debbie Catlin and her husband Mark of Schenectady, and Theresa Bimonte and her husband Matt of Lake Placid; three sons: Brian Barney and his wife Julie of Lake Placid, Jason Barney and his wife Amy of Lake Placid, and Dana Barney of Lake Placid; one brother, Wayne Barney and his wife Vicki of Lake Placid; one sister, Bessie Marrs of Lake Placid; three granddaughters: Caitlin Barney, Samantha Barney and Taylor Barney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by three brothers: Calvin, Alfred and Jean; and one sister, Louise.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at the Clark Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
