Gilbert W. Sheffield

LAKE PLACID — Gilbert W. Sheffield, 85, of Greenwood Street, passed away Dec. 5, 2008 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born May 27, 1923 in Black Brook, he was the son of Ethel (Derouchie) Sheffield and William Jewtraw. He married Martha Goodman.

He was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1942. Mr. Sheffield had worked in the Transportation Department for the Lake Placid Central School District. He transported children to and from school, and he also bussed the Lake Placid High School athletic teams on many trips and safely home again.

He is survived by one son, Richard Sheffield, and his wife Susan of Valrico, Fla.; one brother, Francis “Cowboy” Sheffield of Lake Placid; two grandsons: Scott Sheffield and his wife Denise of Orlando, Fla. and Bryon Sheffield and his wife Jennifer of Orlando, Fla.; one granddaughter, Erin Sheffield of Land-O’Lakes, Fla.; six great-grandchildren: Catherine Sheffield, Emmaline Sheffield, Hunter Sheffield, Parker Sheffield, Connor Sheffield and Dalton Mansfield, all of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife on June 19, 2003 in Saranac Lake .

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. The Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiated. Cremation followed. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in North Elba Cemetery.
