LAKE PLACID — Kenneth C. Porter, 72, of Lewis, and formerly of Lake Placid, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
Born April 19, 1936 in Lake Placid, he was the son of Kenneth W. and Isabel (Moody) Porter.
Mr. Porter had worked in Lake Placid as a heavy equipment operator for the highway department and for Porter Construction and Laurabell Construction, and built more than 140 homes and businesses in Lake Placid and the surrounding area.
He was founder and pastor of Heaven Hill Ministries, originally located at Heaven Hill Farm in Lake Placid and currently located in Lewis.
Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, Rose (Gonyea) Porter of Lewis; one son, Steve Porter and his wife Melissa of Lake Placid; three daughters: Cindy Conway and her husband Lewis of Lake Placid, Joanne Heimerdinger and her husband Charles of Clifton Park and Rebecca Porter of Watertown; one sister, Diane Smart and her husband Roger of Lake Placid; two step-daughters: Deborah Lynn Gallo and Dan of Lake Placid and Sheila Hare of Saranac Lake; two stepsons: Thomas S. Hare and his wife Lanore of Tullahoma, Tenn. and Jonathan Hare of Tullahoma, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28 at the M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. Funeral services and burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29 at the North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid. Rev. Kenneth Mihill, pastor of the Adirondack Church of the Nazarene, will officiate.
