It was great to see so many members of the community lining Main Street to watch the annual Halloween parade. With so many reports of vandalism in larger cities during this holiday, it’s refreshing to see so much support and participation in Lake Placid.
From the school children, whose bright smiling faces really made the day so special, to all the parents, shopkeepers and other residents who watched and cheered, each played a role in demonstrating why we live in such a special place.
It had to be a joy for those kids to walk down the hometown Main Street and be recognized. Someday when they grow up, they will perhaps gain an even greater appreciation of the place most of us already adore.
The scary thing is that some people take this special region for granted. It may be easy to overlook that, with each and every event, there are those who help plan and “make it happen.” Thanks to all those who contribute.
It doesn’t just require monster efforts, but even just a little support by individuals can go a long way. Each child that has an enriching experience with community events such as the Halloween parade should understand that this area is a special place — and that sense of community pride will continue to be nurtured for the benefit of their children.
Now that’s the spirit.
