SARANAC LAKE — Jean Gilbert Wilson died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 at the Will Rogers retirement home in Saranac Lake. Her son Charles Wilson lives nearby in Lake Placid.
Born Dec. 5, 1914 in rural Armstrong, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles Henry and Audrey May (Howard) Gilbert.
She attended Armstrong and Penfield schools and the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in bacteriology, and went to work at Lake View Hospital Laboratory, Danville, Ill., during World War II.
She married George Miller Wilson Feb. 16, 1940. They had two sons, Charles and Arnold Wilson, in Urbana, Ill., where George worked as a geologist in the Illinois State Geological Survey until his death in 1985. Son Arnold also died in 1985. Jean worked in the Entomology Section of the Illinois Natural History Survey until retirement in 1979.
She belonged to five Dependent Masonic Bodies, the DAR and DAC and other historical and genealogical societies, and enjoyed pursuing family genealogy.
At her request, there were no formal memorial services. Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
